West African Vegetables

Ugu Leaves (Fluted Pumpkin Leaves)

Fresh Ugu Leaves (Telfairia occidentalis), also known as Fluted Pumpkin Leaves or Ugwu, are one of the most popular leafy vegetables used in Nigerian and West African cooking. Our Ugu is grown in Texas and harvested fresh at Yoe Ranch. The tender leaves are hand-picked, packed fresh, and ready for your favorite traditional dishes. Ugu has a rich, distinctive green flavor and is traditionally used in dishes such as Edikang Ikong, Egusi Soup, vegetable soup, stews, sauces, and other West African recipes. Edikang Ikong, for example, traditionally combines Ugu with waterleaf, palm oil, meat or fish, crayfish and other ingredients. All Nigerian Recipes
